Origin of a Species Book Review:
I rate Origin of a Species 4/5 because it is very encapsulating as to the time period its from. Considering the fact Darwin waited till he was about to die to release it shows the enormous pressure he had from others who were against the theory of evolution. I think the book did a great job of laying the infrastructure for Biologists of the future. The sad part of the story is if you look in Darwin's past you will see since he released the book as he was about to die he was never able to see anyone further his ideas. The reason I give it 4/5 instead of 5/5 is because some of the idea's were wrong and also he did a lot of back peddling. What i mean by back peddling is he introduced an idea then talked about how he was maybe wrong or that he intertwined it with religion. Although not a very religious man he was pressured to not release these findings due to the ridicule people would give him. In the Origin of a Species he makes many claims that tell of variation through environmental changes and less through habit. He states that the reason it works this way is because of the fact that as the environment changes the animal must adapt to and not the body changing randomly. This is just one of the first ideas Darwin states throughout his book. I definitely would recommend people read this book but to take some of the stuff he says with a grain of salt as we have further been able to explain or reject some of his theories(such as pond theory).
